GKN Sinter Metals, with its Detroit Headquarters in the US, is the leading global producer of powdered metal components - a process allowing components to be manufactured at significantly lower costs. The division boasts production facilities worldwide, and is the leading producer of connecting rods, main bearing caps and transmission components.
With more than 7,000 employees in technology, engineering and manufacturing centres in 11 countries spanning four continents, GKN's Powder Metallurgy operations are proud to produce over 4,000 different parts for the automotive and other industries. This includes components for white goods, power tools, garden equipment and office furniture - although roughly 75% of sales come from the automotive industry. GKN is also at the forefront of developments that could expand the global market for products produced by powder metallurgy by £2.5bn annually.
Clearly, GKN's powder metallurgy business is enjoying exceptional growth; and through subsidiary Hoeganaes Corporation, with its four US manufacturing centres, is the largest producer by sales of ferrous metal powders in North America.
